What Koala AI does, briefly
Koala's Starter plan is $25/month for 45,000 words and 500 credits, one brand, with GPT-6 and Claude Sonnet 5 access, WordPress/Shopify publishing and an API (koala.sh/pricing, checked 24 September 2026). It scales up through Professional ($49), Boost ($99), Growth ($179) and further tiers to $2,000/month, plus a free trial of 5,000 words and 25 credits with no card required. Koala does not host a site: it publishes into one you already have.
The question that actually decides it
- You have a site and want real-time SERP research inside the writer — Koala's own strength — most alternatives below match the publishing part but not the research depth.
- You have a site and want topical clusters or cheaper volume — Machined, SEOwriting.ai and RightBlogger compete directly on that ground.
- You want link building or AI-citation tracking bundled in — Koala does not offer either; BabyLoveGrowth and Arvow's higher tiers do.
- You have no site at all — none of Koala's direct competitors solve that. ForgR does, but it is a different product, not a drop-in swap.

Byword's pricing page title reads "Plans Starting at $99/month" (byword.ai/pricing, checked 24 September 2026); the underlying tier breakdown was not retrievable on this check. Positioned for agencies running multiple client sites with white-label needs.
Good fit if: you manage several client sites and want a premium, agency-oriented writer.
Machined — clusters on a budget
$19/month for 30 articles with automated internal linking, topic clusters and unlimited CMS connections (machined.ai/pricing, checked 24 September 2026). A BYOK plan at $99/month unlocks 2,000 articles if you bring your own AI provider keys.
Good fit if: you want topical-cluster automation on an existing site, cheaper than Koala's higher tiers.
Arvow (formerly Journalist AI) — the multilingual, multi-site option
$39/month in a current promotion ($69 regular) for 1,000 credits on 1 site in 150+ languages; automated link building and LLM visibility tracking only appear from the Business tier at $69/month for 5 sites (arvow.com/pricing, checked 24 September 2026).
Good fit if: you publish in many languages across several sites and want to add link building later.
Outrank and BabyLoveGrowth — link building bundled in
Neither is a pure writer. Outrank is $99/month for 30 articles with automated backlink building on the same plan (outrank.so/pricing, checked 24 September 2026), plus volume discounts from 10% (2-4 sites) to 20% (20-25 sites). BabyLoveGrowth is €49/month for 30 articles, 10 AI-citation prompts tracked across ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, and backlinks drawn from a claimed 4,000+ partner sites (babylovegrowth.ai/en/pricing, checked 24 September 2026). Koala offers neither link building nor AI-citation tracking on any tier we could verify.
Good fit if: link building or AI-answer visibility matters as much as the articles themselves.
Where ForgR is not a Koala alternative
ForgR is not a faster or cheaper Koala. Koala writes into a site you own, with real-time SERP research and a choice of models; ForgR provides the site itself, hosted, and does not offer SERP research or model choice at all. At $34/month for 15 articles, ForgR costs more per article than Koala's $25 Starter tier for 45,000 words. If what you want is a better writer for your existing WordPress, Koala and the tools above are the right list. ForgR only makes sense if you do not want to run that WordPress in the first place.
Cheaper per article is not the same question as who hosts the site. Koala and most of this list answer the first question well. Only ForgR answers the second.
